• Do use a credit and not a debit card when buying online.  This is one thing my husband always told me when I bought online.  Using a credit card will allow you to dispute the charges if necessary and possibly temporarily without payment while the creditor investigates the problem.
• Do keep a record of your purchases wither by email or printing them.  I usually email a copy to myself for my records.  
• Do be sure the site you are using is secure and have the "https" in the URL in the page that asks for your credit card information.  The "s" ensures your safety.  On some sites you might also see a  on the address bar or on the bottom right corner of the webpage.
