How And Where Do You Buy Your Meat?

Today my husband, daughter (Grace) and I took our weekly trip to Sam's Club.  We usually go on Saturday's, but with my husbands bursts of energy he has been busy with painting.  This weekend we fit it into Sunday.  It is just something we do as a family.  I will admit, Grace is not always a fan of it so there are many times she will stay to play with a friend or go to her grandparents.  Ah, how I love grandparents.  Aren't they awesome?

Anyway, Our trip always consist of me buying my weekly papers, for my coupons of course.  We also get a few other food items there.  We buy our skim milk ($2.31) our eggs ($3.98) this is for 2-18 packs and we also buy our ground beef ($19.64)  Ok, this is how the meat breaks down.

  • Today I bought 6.82 lbs
  • $2.88/lb
  • $19.64 was the total
I buy it at Sam's for many reasons.

  • I feel it is good, quality meat.  Hardly any fat.
  • I feel the price is right.
  • I buy in bulk and then break the meat into smaller 1 - 1 1/2 packages and freeze it. (this usually last me at least 1 or 2 months).
Today I did something different.  I bought a little bigger package.  I usually spend $15 or $16 and the package is smaller.  All they had out were the larger packages.  So, I decided to split it in half and use half for hamburger packages for meals and freeze them.  I made 6 hamburger patties for dinner tomorrow and I made 4 more hamburger patties and froze them.  I was very pleased.

I used the Tupperware Patty makers.  I love these things!  They make the best patties and plus you can make your patties ahead of time and either pop them in the refrigerator or the freezer.  Awesome!

With my left over meat I wrapped them first in saran wrap and then tin foil.  I will freeze these and just grab them out when I am ready to cook/use them.  Very convenient and helpful.  I feel it helps save me money and I am not always buying meat.
